D. N. Nelson is a visual artist primarily concerned with representing life according to its details. She makes work at a miniature scale in order to invite viewers closer, with a concentrated intricacy that urges viewers to spend time with each image or object.
She meticulously and deliberately builds her objects, both paintings and sculptural work, until they take shape, and those defining details are revealed. This relates to the affect, the long-standing idea that any object is only object insofar as there is an observing subject. Within these spaces or objects made real through this process, she focuses on texturising a visual experience, attending to the history of the miniature whilst subverting its common tropes.
She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
